Respite for All Releases New Documentary

The Respite for All Foundation premiered its new documentary, A Place of Belonging, on May 1 during a special showing for guests gathered at the Capri Theatre in Montgomery, not far from where the original respite ministry began in 2012. Producer Jack York, cinematographer Zack Mejias and featured care partner Madeline White were all there to celebrate the release, as were 125 local supporters, including about a dozen volunteers who helped Daphne Johnston start the original Respite Ministry 13 years earlier.

The documentary was filmed at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, as well as at three Respite for All communities in Birmingham, and others in Chapel Hill, NC, and McDonough, GA. The full documentary can be viewed at this link: https://youtu.be/9rMnOHMPVL0

To create the 41-minute film, RFA worked with TaleGate, a production company that focuses on telling the story of seniors. Its founder, Jack York, is a pioneer in the field of technology and aging, and his work has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal, NPR, and dozens of senior living publications.

The Respite for All Foundation (RFA), a Montgomery-based nonprofit organization, helps churches and senior service organizations create engaging, uplifting weekday programs for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Through this social model of care, droves of volunteers come together to create places of belonging filled with enriching activities – while giving care partners support and a much-needed break from the challenges they’re experiencing.
